Potential being sold out to developers

Regarding the proposals for Longtown, after having lost our school, a properly functioning police station and a bank, we really do not want to lose our playing fields to a bunch of property developers (The Cumberland News, June 27).

Lochinvar School could be converted into a sixth form college or a grammar school.

This would certainly upgrade Longtown, Lochinvar School having been degraded by being used as a sink-school.

The police station should be open to the public and the officers should be patrolling the streets, not riding around in cars, except to patrol the countryside.

Longtown could be as attractive to tourists as Cockermouth, with its beautiful, wide, main street.

A grant could be given to decorate the buildings, using subtle pastel tones and to plant trees and change the street lighting which is ugly.
The general consensus is that this exercise in ‘democracy’ is just a sham.

How much did these four proposals cost in consultancy fees, the glossy coloured newsletter and distribution, and who paid for it all?
