SIX off-licences in Carlisle have been caught selling alcohol to a 14-year-old boy.
The boy was sent into nine off-licences in Carlisle and was served by six and refused by three. Simply Drinks on Beechwood Avenue, Stanwix, BoozeBuster on Wigton Road, Bargain Booze on Central Avenue, Harraby, and Denton Street, Denton Holme, The Local on English Street and the Spar on Lamb Street all served drink, including lager and cider, to the youngster.
Cumbria Police and Trading Standards carried out the test purchase operation as in a crackdown on underage drink sales. The Spar on Scotland Road, Stanwix, Bells on Orton Road and Bargain Booze on Blackwell Road, Currock, refused to sell alcohol to the boy. Police said they were disappointed that such a high proportion of premises had failed the test.
