Herdwicks get the highest price

THE highest prices of the year were paid for Herdwicks in Cockermouth at the weekend.
Good trade: The average price for ewes was £19 at Mitchell’s Auction Mart, Cockermouth on Saturday. Tups reached a top price of 2,800 gns. The champion ewe came from young famer Eddie Liddle
Tups reached a top price of 2,800 gns at Mitchell’s Auction Mart on Saturday, while breeding ewes went to £105 for a pen from Borrowdale’s Stanley Jackson.
Most of the 4,889 females forward for Friday’s sale were sold.
The champion ewe was from young farmer Eddie Liddle, Stanley Jackson’s apprentice.
The average price was £19 and trade was described as good.
