A late autumn harvest and one very early spring lamb

CONTRACTOR Andrew Sim was so busy with the late harvest he got a big surprise when his children told him one of his ewes had lambed.

Unseasonal arrival: They had no idea the Suffolk-cross was pregnant

The Westnewton farmer had not realised the Suffolk-cross three-shear was pregnant, especially as she had triplets in January.

His children Kerry, 10, John, seven, and Jack, 19 months, wandered up the field at Chapel House Farm last Thursday and found the lamb gambling in the sun.

Andrew said: “They knew enough about farming to realise it was very late for a lamb. It is either very late or very early, I would normally expect an early lamb at the end of November.”

Andrew keeps 70 breeding ewes and 120 beef cows with his father and also runs a contracting business baling and wrapping.

Chef John Crouch says we should forage our food from nature. Would you ever do that?

Yes, it would be fresh and healthy

No, I don't have the time so I'll stick to my tins and processed stuff
