Seventy-year-old Nathan Eggleston won the novice class at the charity ploughing match in Allonby.
Sunday’s contest had been postponed after weeks of wet weather but it was worth the wait for the 45 competitors who ploughed in near-perfect conditions, according to judge Norman Elliot.
The event at Mealo Hill Farm raised more than £1,500 for Hospice at Home and is set to become an annual event. Among the old tractors was a team of horses brought from Twynholm, near Dumfries by David Broll.
Mr Eggleston recently returned to ploughing after of ill-health. It is the first time he has won a class.
