Come and join the opera

The acclaimed singers from Lakeland Opera are holding a concert next month – and are asking members of the public to join them on stage.

The opera company will stage a gala concert at Theatre by the Lake in Keswick on Sunday, October 12, featuring well-known songs from a range of operas by composers such as Verdi, Mozart, Bizet, Donizetti and Tchaikovsky.

Soloists include soprano Michaela Bloom, mezzo-soprano Yvonne Fontaine and tenor Andy Morton.

But the company is also inviting keen singers from among the public who would like to take part to contact them.

In November 2009 Lakeland Opera will be performing a full-scale production of Verdi’s Nabucco , also at Theatre by the Lake and the famous Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from that opera will be among the songs in next month’s concert.

There will be two Saturday afternoon rehearsals on September 27 and October 4 and one on the afternoon of October 12, just before the concert.

Anyone interested in taking part should contact John Brice on 01229 584468 for more information.

The gala concert itself will begin at 8pm.

Tickets cost £14 and £10 and are available by phoning the Theatre at the Lake box office on 017687 74411.
