Carlisle Musical Society are performing three concerts of songs, laughter and entertainment next week to raise money for future productions.
Show Time will feature up to 16 of the society’s members performing a mixture of songs include popular numbers from old and modern shows, solos, duets, comedy and ensemble pieces.
The show runs for three nights at the Green Room, West Walls Theatre in Carlisle.
Helen Cain, chairperson of the society, said: “We are going back to basics and decided to do some singing in small concerts and see what happens.
“There will be younger and older members performing. We are not in huge financial difficulty but need to raise money in order to be able to put on productions in the future.”
Janice Jackson will be performing several songs, including one from Les Miserables, and there will also be a chorus medley of songs from Oliver!.
The Green Room are not charging the society a fee for using the venue.
The society are unable to put on a spring show next year due to a shortfall in funds but they will be performing It’s Our Musical World at the Sands Centre on November 29.
The show will include Steve Viney’s production of Pop Along to Bethlehem and the performance of songs to celebrate the society’s 80th anniversary, with Cumbria’s international singer Andrew Robley and Tom Morley making guest appearances.
Helen said: “It will be a Christmas extravaganza. The Sands Centre is a perfect venue if you can get the numbers on seats but if you have a show that doesn’t cover its costs then as an amateur group you start to have problems. There is a need for a middle-range theatre space in Carlisle.”
Show Time runs from July 9 to 11. All concerts start at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £5, available from Carlisle Tourist Information Centre and West Walls Theatre box office on 01228 625600.
